The 2015 ProMaster City, which will be based on the Fiat Doblo offered in Europe, will compete against the Ford Transit Connect, Nissan NV200 and the 2015 Chevrolet City Express. It will be offered in a cargo or passenger configuration.
The front-wheel-drive van is the first van to offer a 9-speed automatic transmission, according to Ram Trucks.
For its powerplant, the Class 1 compact van will get the 2.4L Tigershark I-4 with MultiAir2 valve-actuation technology that's available with the Chrysler 200, Dodge Journey, Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot. The engine generates 178 hp and 174 lbs.-ft. of peak torque, and it will be paired with the 9-speed transmission that carries a 3.73:1 final-drive ratio.
Ram Trucks will initially offer the ProMaster City alongside the Ram C/V Tradesman cargo van and eventually phase out the Ram C/V. The ProMaster City arrives in the Tradesman and SLT trim levels. The Tradesman cargo version seats two, while the passenger Wagon seats five.
The ProMaster City will offer a best-in-class cargo volume of 131.7 cubic feet, according to Ram Trucks, and a maximum payload of 1,883 pounds. A MacPherson strut suspension gives the unibody van a car-like ride.
The 60/40-split rear doors initially open 90 degrees and can swing open to 180 degrees by pressing a release button on the door latch.
The van will offer a powertrain warranty of five years and 100,000 miles.
