Toyota Motor Sales sold 9% less fleet vehicles in the U.S. in 2013 while claiming the top position in the retail channel, the automaker reported.
Toyota's 194,977 fleet vehicles sold in the calendar year marked a decline of 19,656 (or 9.15%) from the 214,633 fleet vehicles sold in 2012, Toyota Spokeswoman Amanda Rice told Automotive Fleet.
At the same time, Toyota sold the most retail vehicles in 2013 with 2.23 million, a number that should surpass Ford's retail sales. Toyota increased its retail sales by 7.4% from 2012, when it sold 2.08 million vehicles. Ford expects to sell 2.4 million fleet and retail vehicles in the U.S. for the year.
