Mazda North American Operations is recalling 161,400 2009-2013 model-year Mazda6 sedans because their door latch mounting screws may become loose, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
If all three door-latch mounting screws become excessively loose, the door latch mechanism might not engage and the door might open while the car is in motion, NHTSA said. The recall affects Mazda6 vehicles manufactured Feb. 4, 2008 through Aug. 24, 2012.
To fix the problem, Mazda dealers will apply a thread locking adhesive to the door screws and re-torque them, all free of charge. The recall is expected to get under way around Oct. 18.
Vehicle owners can reach Mazda at 1-800-222-5500.
