General Motors today announced the appointment of Ian Hucker as the new head of GM Envolve, the company’s fleet business solutions.

As the vice president, "Hucker will lead GM Envolve’s efforts to provide innovative, integrated fleet solutions that help businesses achieve their mobility and sustainability goals," GM said in a statement.

Most recently, Hucker was chief commercial officer for Hyundai Capital Europe. He previously served as chief commercial officer and VP of sales and remarketing for Lynk & Co., a subsidiary of Geely Group. He also has extensive previous global experience at GM, including senior sales roles in the U.S., Germany, Russia, and the UK, holding leadership positions, including executive director of European sales, director of European fleet and remarketing, and director of corporate and leasing sales.

“We are excited to welcome Ian Hucker back to lead GM Envolve,” said Duncan Aldred, VP of global commercial growth strategies and operations at GM. “His expertise in strategy development and transformation will help GM Envolve continue to grow and deliver value to our customers through a winning product portfolio, advanced telematics, and digital fleet management tools.”

Hucker succeeds Sandor Piszar, who assumed the role from Aug. 1, 2023, until his retirement in December 2024.

Piszar replaced Ed Peper, who was head of GM Fleet and retired as U.S. vice president for GM Envolve, capping a more than 39-year career with GM.

GM Envolve at a Crossroads

Hucker has been tapped to shepherd a business unit with substantial revenue goals for GM.

GM Envolve was launched in May 2023 to bring together products and services under one umbrella for fleet and commercial customers and offer a single point of contact for commercial customers.

Those services include electrification support, telematics, and GPS tracking, along with data insights and analytics.

Ford consolidated its fleet and commercial services into Ford Pro in 2021. Stellantis is in the process of consolidating its fleet services into Ram Professional and Free2Move, Stellantis’ global mobility brand.

In 2021, GM announced that it anticipates annual software and services revenues would reach $20 to $25 billion by 2030, driven by an estimated 30 million connected vehicles.

At that time, OnStar had over 16 million connected vehicles, generating approximately $2 billion in annual revenue through subscription-based communications, in-vehicle security, emergency services, navigation, and remote diagnostics systems.

GM has not released updated targets since then.

In 2021, GM CEO Mary Barra announced a target of 1 million EVs annually in North America by the end of 2025. GM has since updated that 2025 target to 200,000 to 250,000 units.
