Over 50 million vehicles in the U.S. have unrepaired safety recalls, according to the National Safety Council. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges all vehicle owners — including fleet operators — to follow any interim safety guidance provided by the manufacturer and to contact their local dealership to fix the recalled part free of charge.

Stellantis recently issued three safety recalls that could have an impact on fleets. The automaker is recalling an estimated 165,503 2019-2021 Ram ProMaster vehicles equipped with a 62TE transmission because the park pawl may not fully engage the park gear due to debris inside the transmission.

This scenario can result in vehicle rollaway, which increases the likelihood of a crash.

To fix the problem, dealers will update the powertrain control module software, and inspect and replace, as necessary, the transmission or components within the transmission, at no cost to owners. Stellantis' number for this recall is 44A.

In a second action, Stellantis is recalling approximately 2,564 2022-2023 Jeep Wrangler Plug-In Hybrid Electric vehicles (PHEV) due to a battery problem. Specifically, the high voltage (HV) battery pack assembly was built with incorrect fasteners to secure the 200-amp fuse, which can generate excessive heat.

This is a hazardous situation as excessive heat may cause the fuse to fail and result in a loss of drive power, which increases the chances of a collision.

To remedy the matter, dealers will inspect and replace the HV battery fuse, as needed. Dealers will also inspect the battery assembly for damage and replace it, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge.

Stellantis' number for this recall is 53A. This recall is an expansion of previous recall 22V-768.

In a related matter, Stellantis is also recalling an estimated 220 Mopar SVCE KIT- HYBRID BATTERY PACKS with part number 68488244AA for the same issue as the Jeep Wrangler PHEVs.

Dealers will inspect and replace the HV battery fuse and battery assembly if necessary, at no cost to owners. Chrysler's number for this recall is 54A.

For all three recalls, owner notification letters will be mailed on June 16. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.
