Westport Combustion Tech to Power Volvo's CNG Cars
Volvo Cars is updating bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) versions of its V60 and V70 cars sold in Sweden for 2016 that will feature a Drive-E powertrain using new combustion technology from Westport Innovations.

Volvo Cars is updating bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) versions of its V60 and V70 cars sold in Sweden for 2016 that will feature a Drive-E powertrain using new combustion technology from Westport Innovations, according to the natural gas fueling system provider.
The bi-fuel CNG engine will be used on Volvo’s new 2-liter, direct injection, four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain family, according to Westport. Volvo is the first OEM to use Westport's new technology.

Volvo has been selling bi-fuel CNG vehicles in Sweden. Westport is open to introducing this model in other European markets depending on customer demand.
The auto manufacturer has not released any details about the new powertrain yet.
Earlier this month, Volvo unveiled a D5 Twin Engine Special Edition of its V60 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid vehicle. The V60 D5 Twin Engine is expected to produce 120 kilowatts through the combustion engine and about 50 kilowatts from its 11.2 killowatt per hour lithium-ion battery pack using the same configuration used in the V60 D6 Twin Engine, according to Volvo.
