Nissan has begun testing an innovative nano-paint technology in Europe that repels dirt to eliminate the chore of car washing, the automaker announced.
Pitching the idea as the "first self-cleaning car," Nissan applied the specially engineered super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint to a Versa Note subcompact car. The technology, known as Ultra-Ever Dry, adds a protective layer of air between the paint and environment to repel standing water and road spray.
The coating is now being marketed and sold by UltraTech International. Nissan is considering the coating technology as a future aftermarket option.
