Volvo Trucks Australia is expanding its electric truck footprint in the nation, logging its largest medium-duty electric trucks in the country last December and recently delivering e-trucks to two fleets.
Australian-owned transport and logistics business, Team Global Express will begin incorporating Volvo Electric FL medium-duty models by this summer. The largest electric truck order for Volvo Australia, the medium-duty model will be assigned to the Team Global Express Sydney metropolitan pick-up and delivery fleet.
An Electric FL was also delivered to Australia Post, the country’s national postal service, as part of a six-month trial at the company's Redbank Plans Distribution Center near Brisbane.
“The truck has been in service for a couple of months now and is performing well,” said Australia Post Divisional General Manager South, James Dixon. “We will continue to push electric vehicles into our fleet where we can to help reduce emissions wherever we can.”
The two-axle Electric FL, registering a GVW of up to 16.7 tons, is designed for urban transportation services, such as deliveries and waste collection. With four batteries, the Electric FL achieves an energy capacity of 266 and a range of up to 300 km (186 miles) depending on application.

The three-axle truck with a gross vehicle weight of up to 27 tons is also designed for urban applications, including deliveries, waste collection and light construction transportation. The quad-battery electric truck offers 265kWh capacity and uses a 225-kW/850Nm dual-motor driveline, backed a two-speed automated transmission. Operational range is quoted at up to 220km depending on battery configuration and application.
Charging times for Volvo FE and FL electric trucks are: 2 hours with DC (150kW) and 11 hours with AC (22kW)
According to Volvo Australia, the Electric FL and FE trucks are available with service and support packages for charging, route and range planning, and battery monitoring.
