ARLINGTON, Va. --- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has given both the 2007 Volvo S80 and the 2008 Scion xB overall scores of "good" in frontal crash tests. The Volvo S80 was redesigned for the 2007 model year. The institute found that in crash tests, the dummy movement was well controlled. "After the dummy moved forward into the airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury," the IIHS said in a summary of the tests. The Scion xB was redesigned for the 2008 model year. The IIHS had this to say about the Scion xB's performance in frontal crash tests: "Measures taken from the head, neck and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be possible. Head acceleration from the B-pillar hit was low." The Scion xB's earlier version was classified as a minicar, but the 2008 model has added enough size and weight to be classified as a small car.
