Swedish-based all-electric commercial vehicle manufacturer Volta Trucks has accelerated the launch of its medium-duty Volta Zero truck to this summer.
Originally scheduled to be introduced in 2024, the all-electric 16- and 18-ton Volta Zero’s fast-tracked debut is in response to “increased demand and rapidly growing interest among customers operating in Scandinavia,” according to Volta.
“At Volta Trucks, we have identified an interesting slice of the total transport market in the medium duty segment for urban deliveries,” Carl-Magnus Norden, Volta Truck co-founder. “The Volta Zero has been designed from the ground up as an all-electric vehicle with zero tailpipe emissions and has been purpose-built for urban transportation with safety and sustainability at the heart of what we do.”
The Volta Zero features an operating pure-electric range of 150 - 200 kms (95 – 125 miles).
To enhance safety, the driver sits in a central seating position much lower compared with a conventional truck. The combination, plus a glass house-style cab design, gives the driver a wide 220-degree direct vision, which combines with advanced camera technology minimize blind spots.
Sliding doors on each side of the cabin permit the driver to enter or exit on either side of the vehicle, and always onto the pavement. In addition, the low cabin allows the driver to step in and out of the vehicle, avoiding the climbing in and out found in a more traditional truck.
Volta Trucks offers a financing and servicing “Truck as a Service” arrangement for commercial vehicle fleets. Available for a single monthly fee, fleet managers can electrify their fleet with access to all-electric Volta Zero, charging infrastructure provided by Siemens, insurance through Europe’s InsurTech broker, Qover, and servicing, maintenance, and training requirements.
Founded in 2019, by Norden and Kjell Waloen, Volta Trucks operates across all major cities in Europe and the U.K.
