Together for Safer Roads (TSR), a global NGO, will hold its annual Vision Zero Fleet Forum (VZFF) as a virtual conference from May 18-19, 2022. The conference is co-presented by New York City’s Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS). 

An important event for fleet operators, the objective of the annual meeting is to create an exchange of ideas, build partnerships, and find solutions aimed at achieving Vision Zero. That is, eliminating all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all.

Although overall miles driven decreased dramatically due to the pandemic, more than 40,000 people still lost their lives in traffic crashes on American roadways in 2020. Trucks, in general, represent 12% of total road fatalities while only making up 4% of the vehicles operating on the road. And with 72% of America’s freight transport being moved by trucks, transportation-related organizations play a vital role in safety and sustainability. 

At the conference, fleet operators will have the chance to engage with colleagues, technology companies, OEMs, city officials, community advocates, and road safety advocates.

Valuable Keynotes and Panel Discussions

The VZFF will feature road safety experts from around the world. On day one, Matts-Åke Belin, the global lead for the World Health Organization’s Decade of Action for Road Safety will present. On day two, Jessie Singer, journalist and author of the bestseller “There Are No Accidents,” will conduct a fireside chat.  

There will also be a series of panel discussions by representatives from across the road safety spectrum discussing experiences, strategies, and knowledge to make Vision Zero a reality.

Also on day two, Chris Brown, fleet group editor of Bobit Business Media, will moderate a panel titled “Driver Attitudes Towards Technology.”  

This session will explore attitudes regarding GPS-based telematics and in-cab driver assistance technology that is often paired with in-cab dash cameras — all of which can keep drivers and the public safe. The problem is many drivers, and even some fleet managers, are critical of the technology, significantly impacting adoption and use. This session offers a chance to learn how to better understand what makes drivers reluctant to adopt in-cab camera technology and identify what can be done to positively influence perceptions.
