USPS Keeps Vehicle Costs Down by Retreading Tires

WASHINGTON – With tires the third highest cost of running any fleet, the savings offered by the use of retreads adds up to be very significant, according to the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Postal Service, recent 2009 Closing the Circle Award recipient for its national Green Purchasing Program, has managed to keep vehicle maintenance costs down by retreading tires, according to the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB).

With tires the third highest cost of running any fleet, right after the cost of drivers and fuel, the savings offered by the use of retreads adds up to be very significant, according to a TRIB statement.

"Over the years we have watched the Postal Service increase their use of retreads on their mail delivery vehicles and large trucks, and we are always pleased to know that when our mail is delivered it is coming on a vehicle using retreads," said Harvey Brodsky, managing director for the TRIB. "They set a great example for other fleets in both the public and private sectors who are interested in helping the environment and saving money," he added.
