The UK's RAC is taking steps to eliminate range anxiety for drivers of electric vehicles by offering an emergency recharging service for its insureds who find themselves stranded on the side of the road due to a depleted charge, according a report by energylivenews.com.

Its first mobile electric charging system is going to work in the Birmingham area. RAC said this is because the city has a “well-established” progressive EV record.

A standard RAC van has been kitted out with an EVRESCUE, a portable fast charging unit which can give 15 miles of range to a stranded electric vehicle in less than half an hour, according to the report. If the service is successful, more recharging vans will be hitting the road.
