While campaigning in corn-rich Iowa, Donald Trump urged federal regulators to increase the amount of ethanol blended into the national gasoline supply.
Trump spoke at an event hosted by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association on Jan. 19 where he said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency should follow the volumes set out by Congress in 2007, reports The Hill.
In 2015, the EPA used a provision in the initial law to waive specific volumes set in 2007 due to lower demand for the corn-based fuel.
Iowa's Gov. Terry Branstad has urged voters to reject Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and other candidates who oppose continuing the ethanol mandate beyond 2022.
