Toyota Australia has expanded its HiLux truck lineup and will offer a variant specifically designed for the mining sector and small- to medium-sized businesses such as plumbers, electricians, and building industry contractors.
The latest HiLux truck will arrive as a 4x4 SR double cab that combines a cab and chassis body style with a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine and automatic transmission with a five-speed self-shifter. The truck can transport five people.
The platform is ideally suited to the mining industry because it can accommodate storage lockers and toolboxes, as well as additional spare tires, water or fuel tanks. The vehicle was developed in Japan after feedback from a fleet customer in Australia, according to a Toyota release.
Toyota now offers 23 HiLux variants in Australia. The vehicle carries a recommended retail price starting at $43,740 (Australian dollars).
