Toyota Corolla Hatchback Earns Top Safety Pick
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has bestowed the redesigned 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback with 2018 Top Safety Pick status when the small car is outfitted with optional curve-adaptive headlights.
The 2019 Corolla comes with standard, superior-rated front crash prevention, and its optional curve-adaptive headlights earn an acceptable rating—two more factors that allowed it to qualify for Top Safety Pick.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has bestowed the redesigned 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback with 2018 Top Safety Pick status when the small car is outfitted with optional curve-adaptive headlights.
The 2019 Corolla hatchback replaces the former Corolla iM hatchback, notes IIHS.
The 2019 model was put through the paces during five arduous crashworthiness tests conducted by IIHS. It performed well, scoring good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.
In addition, the 2019 Corolla comes with standard, superior-rated front crash prevention, and its optional curve-adaptive headlights earn an acceptable rating—two more factors that allowed it to qualify for Top Safety Pick.
Finally, IIHS points out that the 2019 Corolla scored a good rating in the Institute’s newest crash test—the passenger-side small overlap front—which put it on the brink of capturing the coveted Top Safety Pick+ recognition. However, because the car’s base headlights earn just a marginal rating versus a good rating, the Corolla missed out on the “plus” status.
