With the M-Class, the predecessor of the GLE, Mercedes-Benz helped establish the premium SUV segment in 1997. Since then, several million units have been sold globally. The updated GLE includes approximately 3,000 new or revised components, with updates across design, powertrain, chassis, and vehicle systems.

Exterior updates include revised lighting signatures, a larger grille, and new wheel and color options. Inside, the GLE introduces the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which integrates vehicle systems with cloud connectivity and supports over-the-air updates.
