Kia’s all-new 2023 Sportage Plug-in Hybrid is available to order now with European deliveries expected to begin in Q2 2022.
Developed on an advanced new architecture that encompasses powertrain electrification innovations and technologies, the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid offers a combined fuel economy of 1.1 I/100km. With a 70km-emissions-free driving range and up to 78 km in city driving, the SUV is suited to most daily journeys using electric power, according to the automaker.
The crossover compact SUV will be available in LX, EX, and SX-Prestige trim level. All-wheel driver is optional in the LX and standard in the EX and SX-Prestige.
The Plug-in Hybrid’s four-cylinder gasoline engine features many upgrades: promote optimum fuel efficiency in all operating conditions; a new and optimised combustion process; cooling technologies; and key friction reduction measures. The result: the new Sportage Plug-in Hybrid emits just 25g/km of CO2 on the weighted combined cycle.
The Intelligent drivetrain layout has been arranged to avoid impact on passenger and luggage space, with the high-voltage battery placed centrally between the two axles under the SUV’s body, enabling balanced weight distribution.
“The all-new Kia Sportage was developed from the outset to include a cutting-edge Plug-in Hybrid drivetrain that would enable our customers to benefit from a truly impressive emissions free driving range. Combined with an efficient eco-friendly gasoline engine, the new Sportage Plug-in Hybrid clearly highlights Kia’s mission to accelerate sustainable mobility solutions across Europe,” says Sjoerd Knipping, vice president marketing and product of Kia Europe.
