Consumer Reports surveyed 47,000 owners of 2017-2022 model year vehicles equipped with advanced driver assistance systems to find out what systems they liked and disliked.

Survey: Blind Spot Warning is Most Popular ADAS Technology

A recent survey finds that advanced driver assistance systems that help with rear visibility are popular with drivers as they augment traditional features like side and rear-view mirrors.

Over 50% of people said that advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that take over some acceleration and braking functions in traffic jams make driving less stressful, according to a recent Consumer Reports survey. 

The survey found that the most popular systems were the least intrusive ones. Blind spot warning (BSW) systems that help with rear visibility were the No. 1 ranked system in terms of popularity. Moreover, in prior surveys, two-thirds of drivers who used BSW said it helped to prevent a crash.

BSW is now a commonplace option on many affordable vehicles, and some survey respondents said they wouldn’t buy a vehicle without it.

Respondents also favored systems that add convenience like adaptive cruise control (ACC) and lane centering assist (LCA). The drivers who like ACC the most say it helps relieve stress on highway drives.

The survey also found that most respondents didn’t know much about driver monitoring systems but indicated some interest in them.

As for how satisfied with the particular ADAS technology in their own vehicles, there was variation among car brands. Honda and Acura came in toward the bottom of many of the specific system rankings, while several Stellantis brands — including Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram — were frequently near the top.

In addition, newer cars got higher satisfaction ratings, indicating that these systems are improving over time, according to Consumer Reports.
