Steve Kapusta, the senior vice president of Ally Remarketing Services for SmartAuction, was honored Oct. 2 with the 2024 Ed Bobit Industry Icon Award for 2024 during the 2024 NAAA World Remarketing Convention in Orlando, Florida.

The National Auto Auction Association (NAAA) and the Automotive Remarketing Alliance (ARA) jointly created the annual Ed Bobit Industry Icon award in 2015. The award commemorates the late Ed Bobit (1927-2014), who was the founder of Bobit Business Media. It is bestowed on members of the automotive industry who most exemplify Bobit’s leadership, dedication, service, and devotion to excellence.

Kapusta has led a distinguished career of more than three decades in the automotive industry. He was originally involved with vehicle pricing when SmartAuction launched in 2000 offering off-lease vehicles. With Kapusta’s leadership and expertise, SmartAuction has grown from humble beginnings to an industry-leading digital platform that has sold over 8.3 million vehicles for thousands of dealers, nearly 100 physical auctions, and numerous commercial consignors.

Kapusta has over 35 years of business experience with Ally. Before his current role, he served in positions of increasing responsibility with the controller’s group, finance, treasury, and remarketing teams.

During the awards ceremony, NAAA and ARA congratulated Kapusta on becoming the newest member of this group that honors the legacy of Ed Bobit. Past award winners include: Tom Kontos, Charlotte Pyle, Mike Antich, Nick Peluso, and Venkat Krishnamoorthy.
