Fleet management systems that are active in South Africa will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 14%, going from from 1.3 million units in 2017 to 2.5 million by 2022, according to data from market research firm Berg Insight AB.
A noteworthy percentage of deployed fleet telematics systems in the region are represented by low-end tracking systems, according to the report. This includes light fleet management systems such as stolen vehicle recovery systems with basic fleet management features.
“South Africa is a relatively mature telematics market and the penetration is comparably high from an international perspective,” according to the report.
The largest providers of fleet management solutions in the market are Cartrack and MiX Telematics, and both have installed bases of approximately more than 200,000 active units in the country, according to the report. Other top fleet telematics providers in the country are TomTom Telematics, Netstar, and Ctrack.
“Commercial vehicle OEMs including Scania, Daimler, MAN, and Volvo Group have moreover all introduced fleet telematics solutions in South Africa, though the adoption levels generally remain relatively modest so far,” according to the report.
