Domestic sales of new light commercial vehicles and medium- and heavy-trucks in South Africa are down year-to-date as of August 2020, continuing a streak of declines caused by COVID-19, according to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA).

Light commercial vehicle sales for 2020 so far are at 66,942, down 36.4% when compared to last year. Last year, 2019 sales through August were 153,221.

Meanwhile, sales for medium- and heavy-truck segments in the industry also performed weaker year to date, and are down 3,078 and 7,032%, respectively, according to NAAMSA.

This reflected a 24.6% decline in the case of medium commercial vehicles, and, in the case of heavy trucks a decline of 21.4% when compared to the corresponding month last year.
