WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The U.S. Senate has voted to move $8 billion into the highway trust fund, restoring solvency to an account crucial to federal road and bridge projects, the Los Angeles Times reported.

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The U.S. Senate has voted to move $8 billion into the highway trust fund, restoring solvency to an account crucial to federal road and bridge projects, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Just five days earlier, Transportation Secretary Mary Peters had warned that the trust fund would be out of money by the end of the month if Congress didn't take action. She urged Congress to approve the replinishment bill that President George W. Bush had previously threatened to veto, according to the Times.

The House is expected to vote on the legislation today, Sept. 11.
