SPARKS, MD - PHH Arval announced its goal to reduce companywide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 12 percent by 2014 at the Climate Leaders Partners Meeting in National Harbor, Md.

PHH Arval, a national fleet management company, joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Climate Leaders program in 2008. PHH Arval has completed a company-wide inventory of its greenhouse gas emissions and has now set an aggressive reduction goal.

"PHH Arval is committed to positively impacting the environment and serving as a corporate environmental leader in the automotive fleet industry," said George Kilroy, president and CEO of PHH Arval. "Our environmental program, PHH GreenFleet, has helped our fleet clients reduce GHG emissions while decreasing overall operating costs. We believe it's important to demonstrate our own commitment to the environment. We were the first fleet management company to offset the emissions from our own company fleet, and now we're starting to make significant improvements to operate even more efficiently to meet our Climate Leaders goal."

In order to achieve and document its GHG emissions reductions, PHH Arval is monitoring such areas as fleet emissions, kilowatt hours, alternative energy sources like back-up generators, and refrigeration solutions. PHH Arval has already initiated improvements to reduce energy use in its Sparks, Md.-based headquarters building, including:

  • Moving to more energy efficient lighting.

  • Reducing hours of heating/cooling/lighting the building.

  • Installing software to reduce energy demand of central processing units (CPUs).

Future plans to meet the 2014 goal include: HVAC system upgrades/performance tuning, greening of the data center, PC management systems and continued improvements in fleet efficiency.

Climate Leaders is an EPA industry-government partnership that works with companies to develop comprehensive climate change strategies. Partner companies commit to reducing their impact on the global environment by completing a corporate-wide inventory of their greenhouse gas emissions based on a quality management system, setting aggressive reduction goals, and annually reporting their progress to EPA. Through program participation, companies create a credible record of their accomplishments and receive EPA recognition as corporate environmental leaders.
