A new peer-to-peer carsharing company called Avail has launched its app-based service at Salt Lake City International Airport, according to a report by Fox 13 Salt Lake City.
Using the app, customers can select whether to rent a vehicle or park and share their vehicle while traveling.
“When a local traveler is leaving, they leave out of Salt Lake City International Airport,” Mike Eames, Avail’s field operations manager, told Fox 13. “We pair them with a traveler that’s coming in, and we link those borrowers up with the owners and their vehicles.”
If a customer’s vehicle is rented, he or she will receive payment for each day that the vehicle is used. If the vehicle isn’t rented, the customer receives free airport parking and transportation to and from the airport, according to the report.
To prevent vehicles from being stolen or damaged, each vehicle is equipped with a telematics device. Additionally, every trip on Avail is covered with a million-dollar insurance policy if a vehicle is damaged while being rented.
“[The telematics device] monitors GPS location, speed, and braking,” Eames said. “If anything were to happen with a vehicle, we would know about it and be able to address it.”
In addition to Salt Lake City, Avail’s service is also available at airports in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, and Phoenix.
