Nissan Recalls Four Models for Fire Risk

Nissan is recalling an estimated 394,025 vehicles, including its Maxima midsize sedan, for a brake fluid leak that could cause them to catch fire.

Nissan Recalls Four Models for Fire Risk — Nissan has recalled four models, including the 2018 Maxima (shown), for a brake fluid leak.

Nissan is recalling an estimated 394,025 vehicles due to a brake fluid leak that could cause them to catch fire. Specifically, an antilock brake actuator pump can leak fluid onto a circuit board, causing electrical shorts and increasing the likelihood of fire.

The recall incudes 2015 to 2018 Nissan Murano midsize SUVs, 2016 to 2018 Nissan Maxima midsize sedans, 2017 to 2019 Infiniti QX60 midsize SUVs, and 2017 to 2019 Nissan Pathfinder midsize SUVs.

These vehicles were previously recalled and unrepaired, or inspected and determined to not need a repair, under recall number 18V-601. In addition, this recall expands the previous population.

If the ABS warning light remains illuminated for more than 10 seconds after engine start up, Nissan advises owners to park the vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures, and to not drive the vehicle.

To fix the problem, Nissan will notify owners on Dec. 2, and dealers will replace the ABS actuator pumps, at no cost to owners. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available, which is expected to be during summer 2020.

Parts are currently available for vehicles with illuminated antilock brakes, according to a report in The Detroit News.
