Nissan plans to offer a hybrid version of its all-new Pathfinder for the 2014 model-year. The new hybrid powertrain will be available on three trim levels, SV, SL, and Platinum, when it becomes available in summer 2013, Nissan stated. The automaker said the new hybrid option will be priced at around $3,000 more than the Pathfinder 3.5L V-6 models.

The 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid matches a supercharged 2.5L gasoline engine, a 15 kW electric motor, and a compact lithium-ion battery. The battery fits under the vehicle’s third-row seat, which allowed Nissan to keep the second row sliding seat functionality in place.

The hybrid system is rated at 250 net hp and can produce 243 lb. ft. of torque. The regular 3.5L model can produce 260 hp and 240 lb. ft. of torque, for the sake of comparison. The hybrid system also uses Nissan’s Intelligent Dual Clutch System (a one motor, two clutch parallel system) that manages power from the engine and electric motor.

Fuel economy estimates for the 2014 Pathfinder Hybrid version are 25 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, for 26 mpg combined. Nissan said this is a 24% improvement over the standard version of the all-new Pathfinder. The fuel tank can hold up to 19.5 gallons, giving the hybrid version of the Pathfinder an estimated driving range of around 526 miles.

Beyond the powertrain, other differences between the regular version of the Pathfinder and the hybrid editions include LED taillights and Nissan “PUREDRIVE” Hybrid badges. Also, the automaker added hybrid information screens to the instrument panel’s Drive-Assist Display.
