During a recent fleet management conference held in Lagos, the Equipment Leasing Association of Nigeria (ELAN) called for the building of sustainable fleet management structure that would enhance efficiency in fleet service delivery, according to a report by This Day Live.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of ELAN Chuka Onwuchekwa said that such a move would help build appropriate knowledge and skills in the sub-sector.
Onwuchekwa said this during a welcome address presented at the fleet management conference held in Lagos recently. The conference was a capacity building forum for stakeholders in the fleet industry as it was to equip stakeholders with essential tools and techniques expected to lead to significant cost savings, operational efficiency and also provide the platform for business networking, according to the report.
The ELAN boss pointed out that globally, fleet management is a “total business discipline” that has evolved as an integral part of logistics support for economic and other developmental initiatives with focus on vehicle fleets, i.e., cars, buses, trucks and other special purpose vehicles such as ambulances, paramilitary vehicles, dump and waste trucks, and fire service vehicles, according to the report.
Onwuchekwa noted that fleet management channels include a range of functions such as vehicle financing , maintenance, health and safety management, driver’s management, fuel management, vehicle disposal and replacement, remarketing, telematics, among others, according to the report.
