The new Mercedes Benz A-Class will feature an all-new multimedia system that includes voice recognition technology with artificial intelligence learning capabilities and semi-autonomous driving capabilities, and will be available in European markets.
The new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system offers voice recognition akin to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, and also offers a comprehensive touch screen operation panel and touch control buttons in the steering wheel, according to the automaker. Meanwhile, its semi-autonomous driving capabilities includes Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist, which support the driver by helping drivers keep safe driving distances and manage steering.
Vehicle speed is now also automatically adjusted on bends, at road junctions and on roundabouts, and the A-Class also includes active emergency stop assist and active lane change assist features, according to the automaker. The A-Class’ Pre-Safe Plus feature also offers rear-end collision prevention.
Under the hood, the A-Class features three different engine options. This includes the A200 which offers a 163-hp, 1.4-liter inline-4 gas engine, which includes the option for a six-speed manual transmission; the A180d which offers a diesel I4 that features 116 hp, and the A250, which offers 224-hp on a 2.0-liter I4. All trims offer a new seven-speed DCT dual clutch transmission.
The new entry-level engine in the A200 is the same as the M282 with a displacement of 1.33 liters, according to the automaker.
It also includes two displays measuring up to 10.25 inches each blend together under a shared glass cover (except with the basic variant with two 7-inch displays) to form a free-standing widescreen cockpit, according to the automaker. Other interior updates include additional shoulder room, elbow room, and headroom.
The A-Class will be available in Europe this summer.
