The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) has bestowed a 5-Star safety rating on the 2022 Mazda MX-30, the automaker’s first battery electric vehicle.
As with all NCAP contenders, the Mazda MX-30 underwent a series of frontal, side, and rollover tests. The NCAP program specifically conducts crashworthiness tests that reflect the majority of the types of crashes that occur on the nation’s highways and byways.
The Mazda MX-30 captured 5-star ratings in both frontal and side crash evaluations, as well as a 5-star Overall Vehicle rating. The unique design of the vehicle’s freestyle doors proved to sustain both side barrier and side pole crash tests, according to the manufacturer.
Launched in 1993, the goal of NHTSA’s NCAP 5-Star ratings is to guide consumers to make informed safety choices when purchasing new vehicles. One star is the lowest rating; five stars is the highest. More stars equal safer cars.
In addition to the MX-30, all 2022 model year Mazda vehicles that underwent NHTSA’s New Car Assessment evaluations have received 5-Star Overall Vehicle scores.
