Large Body Shop Helps ADESA Meet Demand
ADESA Corp. has built a huge body shop that can repair up to 300 vehicles per week.
ADESA, the nation’s second largest auto auctions behind Manheim Auctions Inc., has opened the 500-ft. by100-ft. body shop at its Birmingham, AL auction. The 50,000-square-foot shop was built to meet increasing demand for bodywork at the auction.
ADESA runs 55 auctions across the country, and Birmingham is one of its top five sites. ADESA did not disclose the number of vehicles sold in Birmingham. The auction chain handles about 4 million vehicles nationwide annually.
The new facility can accommodate three vehicles each in its three paint booths. The shop, which opened June 12, mainly repairs minor damage.
The shop was designed with several factors in mind, the most important being a need to repair a large number of vehicles. The shop replaced the company’s old body shop in Birmingham, which had 15,000 square feet and was built in 1988. In the company’s old Birmingham body shop, ADESA required nearly round-the-clock service to repair vehicles in time for auction.
