Companies that provide service for plumbing, heating, and air conditioning systems see their weekly average stops per vehicle and distance traveled increase significantly during summer months, according to new data from Verizon Connect.
Vehicles in these industries that use Verizon Connect's Reveal telematics platform saw the increased activity during June, July, and August of 2018. Verizon Connect aggregated data from 3,700 vehicles.
The average number of stops per vehicle reached 5.8 per week compared to 5.6 stops in spring months and 5.5 stops during fall months. The average distance traveled per vehicle reached 117.9 miles compared to 113.2 miles in spring and 113.8 during the fall.
"Summer months are the busiest due to malfunctioning air-conditioning units — the result of them being pushed to their limits when temperatures are at their peak," said Kevin Aries, Verizon Connect's global product success and management. "Because of this, HVAC fleets are driving more miles and making more stops as they service these customers and respond to emergency/critical calls fielded by dispatchers."
