Vehicle registrations in the French fleet market saw a 2.5% drop in January, which continued a five month decline but was less of a volume loss than seen in the previous four months.

January of 2018 was the countries best first month for French true fleet registrations, which further exemplified the challenge faced for the same month in 2019, according to Dataforce.

Leading the way in fleet registrations were Peugeot at No. 1, followed by Renault, despite having declines of 8.5% and 13.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, Citroen held the third place spot and saw a 11.9% growth on the month. Rounding out the top five were Volkswagen, which had success with its T-Roc small SUV, and BMW, which achieved double-digit growth of 12.9%.

The small SUV segment, overall, saw success in France, including with the Hyundai Kona, reports Dataforce. Overall, there was no other vehicle class with a higher growth by absolute figures. The segment was up by 39.3% and with a share of 10.4% it achieved a new record in the French fleet market.

Meanwhile, analyzing fuel performance, diesel fell to a new low point with 61.8%. Meanwhile, company cars equipped with a petrol powertrain peaked out with 31%. However, alternative fuel types only achieved a small improvement compared to the average share for 2018.
