Ford Recalls Over 90,000 SUVs and Trucks for Engine Issues

The automaker issued a recall, including popular Bronco and F-150 models, over engine failure risk remedied by dealer inspection and possible engine replacement.

Ford is recalling an estimated 90,736 units of certain 2021-2022 Bronco, F-150, Edge, Explorer, Lincoln Nautilus, and Lincoln Aviator vehicles equipped with a 2.7L or 3.0L Nano EcoBoost engine.

Dealers will perform an engine cycle test and replace the engine as necessary, free of charge.

Reason for the Recall

The engine intake valves may break while driving, which can result in engine failure and a loss of drive power, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported. An engine malfunction indicator lamp will illuminate the dashboard cluster, and drivers may notice their vehicle running rough before losing motive power.

Although Ford did not report any incidents or accidents due to engine issues, the company did specify the issue could result in a higher crash risk.

At no cost to customers, dealers will perform an engine cycle test and replace the engine as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Oct. 7, 2024.
