Ford Motor Company has issued two recalls that impact popular fleet vehicles. The automaker is recalling an estimated 1,280,726 2013-2018 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles because the front brake hoses may rupture and leak brake fluid.
A brake fluid leak is dangerous as it will increase brake fluid travel and extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of a crash. According to the Associated Press, Ford said it’s aware of one crash with no mention of injuries due to the problem.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace the front brake hoses, at no cost to owners. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk will be mailed April 17. Once parts are available, second letters will be mailed. Ford's number for this recall is 23S12.
In a second action, Ford is recalling approximately 222,454 2021 F-150 vehicles because the windshield wiper arms may break, causing the windshield wipers to fail.
Inoperative windshield wipers can reduce visibility in certain conditions, upping the chances for a collision.
To remedy the matter, dealers will inspect and replace the wiper arms, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters will be mailed March 27. Ford's number for this recall is 23S10. This recall expands previous recall number 22V-250.
Owners can reach Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332.
