FMI Offers Innovative Solutions to Fleet Management
The 44th annual Fleet Management Institute was held April 1-4. The theme of this year’s FMI was “Interactive Innovations,” and promised engineered solutions for fleet management. Numerous courses were offered on issues facing the fleet industry, and several keynote speakers offered insights into creative problem solving, marketing, staff interaction, and business management. Dave Robertson officially took office as the newest president of NAFA. One of his first duties as president was presiding over the annual business luncheon, where he honored George Argueta with NAFA’s honorary membership award. The presentation of the Larry Goill Award took place at Monday’s keynote luncheon. The award, which recognizes quality fleet management ideas, was presented to Brad Block, equipment services supervisor for Washoe County Equipment in Reno, NV, Charles Loveless of Frito Lay in Plano, TX, and Windell Mitchell, fleet manager for king County in Seattle, WA. Gayle Pratt, NAFA’s vice president, presided over Tuesday’s chapter recognition luncheon. Pratt recognized the Western Canada Chapter for the greatest percentage increase in NAFA membership. The Ontario Chapter was cited as having the greatest net increase in membership. Tim Perry, the vice chair of the board of delegates, presented the award for outstanding chapter service by an affiliate to Earl Miller of the Pacific Southwest Chapter, while Monique Decray of the Quebec Chapter received the Outstanding Chapter Service Member Award. The Fleet Exposition offered two days of auto manufacturers, parts specialists, the newest trends in utility trucks, contest winners, and a miniature golf course.
