FCA will provide food services to children who rely on school lunches for most of their meals.
The first step that the company will take in this initiative is to provide more than 1 million meals to school-age children in communities surrounding its principal manufacturing plants in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.
This program will later be extended nationwide in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
“There has never been a more important moment to help children and their families with vital needs in our communities than during this time of great uncertainty," said FCA CEO Mike Manley.
As schools have closed down due to COVID-19, many children who relied on the free or reduced priced meals have found themselves without reliable access to food.
FCA will work in partnership with non-profit organizations and foundation that provide food to children until schools return to session, the company noted.
This move FCA follows an announcement earlier this week from the company that it would be producing and donating 1 million face masks per month to those in the front line in the fight against coronavirus.
In addition, the company will invest to extend the production capacity at some of its other plants to expand production of face masks.
