The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is setting new guidelines for automakers conducting fuel economy testing in the wake of several automakers having to restate their mpg numbers.
The new guidelines detail how vehicles must be prepared for testing, including setting an acceptable level of tire wear and how vehicles can be broken in prior to testing, reports the Detroit News.
The new tests would likely also require automakers to measure mpg at various speeds up to 70 mph rather than just the 50 mph measurement taken now.
