JACKSON, MS – A comprehensive vehicle management solution developed by Enterprise Fleet Management for Jackson State University (Jackson, Miss.) won second place in the 2007 Finance, Business and Administration Awards program sponsored by the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning.

The competitive awards program, which recognizes “best practices” at Mississippi’s eight public universities, is designed to promote excellence in all aspects of institutional operations, seek out opportunities for enhancing efficiencies and effectiveness, and share best practices.

According to Wayne Goodwin, assistant vice president of facilities & construction management, a routine audit of capital assets, expenses and current utilization indicated that only 71 percent of the 70 university-owned vehicles were being used on a daily basis.

Additionally, approximately 65 percent of the vehicles in the fleet were 10 years old or older, and higher maintenance, fuel costs and reliability issues, associated with operating the older models, were causing an increase in operating budgets, as well as doing very little to enhance the campus image.

Enterprise’s comprehensive vehicle management solution demonstrated how with limited capital funding, the University could eliminate vehicles as capital assets, update the fleet with newer, fuel efficient models, and reduce operating expenses.
