Dana/Suttles Transport, a 700-vehicle fleet that specializes in transporting chemicals and hazardous materials, has installed PeopleNet Communications’ Fleet Management tracking and communications system into its vehicles. The system features GPS locating, mobile communications, and Web-based business management tools such as vehicle-performance reporting and fuel-tax calculating. Dana/Suttles, based in Demopolis, AL, tested the PeopleNet system with several competitor products and decided to install the PeopleNet system in the fleet. The PeopleNet Fleet Management System's GPS satellite technology and Web-based interface allows fleet managers, dispatchers, and shippers to locate vehicles from anywhere there is an Internet connection. The fleet management system also offers the benefit of over-the-air programming technology, which automatically sends system upgrades to in-cab hardware, saving fleets time. Another feature of the fleet management system is its integration to the Palm OS platform, which allows increased mobility and job efficiency by giving users the option to access the system's features through a variety of handheld devices.
