GADSDEN, AL -In addition to conventional recycling efforts, the City of Gadsden is also encouraging residents to become more involved in supplying recycled oil for the fleet's biodiesel fuel, according to the Gadsden Times.
Gadsden Fleet Management Facility houses the recycled cooking oil through the Waste to Fuel program. The biodiesel program got its start almost two years ago after Auburn University gave the city the equipment used to turn cooking oil into biodiesel fuel, reported the Times.
Greg Noah, fleet management superintendent, said it takes about 55 gallons of cooking oil to make about 50 gallons of fuel. He said the program has had a good response from businesses, but he wants the public to get more involved. Containers for the cooking oil are available at local recreation centers or the fleet management facility.
