AUBURN HILLS, MI - Chrysler Group announced that it is cooperating with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to investigate 1993-2004 model-year Jeep Grand Cherokee, 1993-2001 Jeep Cherokee, and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty vehicles. Chrysler said it is studying publicly available data regarding more than 21,000 rear impacts in 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. NHTSA is investigating whether rear impacts could result in a fire, and Chrysler said that based on the data it has analyzed, 1993 – 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles are not at any greater risk of potential of potential vehicle fires in rear-end collisions than other similar vehicles.
Based on that data, Chrysler Group concluded that 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles are not defective and that their fuel systems don’t post an unreasonable risk to motorists.
