As its main competitors have decreased or ended their carsharing operations, Cambio expanded its user base in Brussels by 12% last year, according to a report by The Brussels Times. Zipcar plans to cease its operations in Brussels in February.
In its 16th year of operation, Cambio reached its 500,000th carsharing trip. Additionally, the company’s number of rides increased by 16% across Belgium last year, according to the report.
Cambio has also seen an increase in business due to its expansion of shared and greener mobility alternatives. “People prefer to use all kinds of transport modes, such as the bicycle, public transport, the scooter, and Cambio, than to bear the heavy cost of having their own car,” Frederic Van Malleghem, director of Cambio, told Bruzz.
Currently, Cambio runs a 530-vehicle fleet. In 2020, the company plans to grow its operations by 10% to 15% by launching its own app and increasing its electric car fleet, according to the report.
