RIVERSIDE, CA – California now has the most expensive gas in the nation, according to the Web site www.nbc4.tv. Prices climbed again overnight after steadily rising for five weeks. Experts predict California could see record high prices again by summertime according to NBC4 news. This year, the price spike hit months ahead of the busy summer driving season, with the price for a gallon of unleaded regular already more than $3 a gallon in some parts of California and Hawaii. Tight supplies and speculators helped send Inland Empire prices upward — with unleaded regular averaging nearly $3 a gallon — overtaking Hawaii with the nation’s most expensive gasoline, according to the Auto Club. The average price of a gallon of regular self-serve in Riverside and San Bernardino counties area rose 10.8 cents over the past week to $2.935 today, 37 cents more than last month and a year ago, the report said. The average price per gallon rose 13.1 cents from Feb. 23 to Mar. 2, five cents from Feb. 16-23, eight cents from Feb. 9-16, and 8.1 cents from Feb. 2-9 after dropping for five consecutive weeks. In Orange County, the average price per gallon rose 12.9 cents over the past week to $2.892. The price rose 12.2 cents from Feb. 23-Mar. 2, 5.2 cents from Feb. 16-23, 8.3 cents from Feb. 9-16, and 7.2 cents from Feb. 2-9 after dropping for five consecutive weeks.
