Google's new parent subsidiary, Alphabet, shares its name with a BMW fleet services business that plans to retain Alphabet.com rather that selling the domain to the Silicon Valley company, the New York Times reports.
BMW describes Munich-based Alphabet International as "Europe's leading provider of business mobility solutions." The company provides fleet funding options such as operating leases, financial leases, and sale and leaseback; a variety of fleet management services such as maintenance, fuel managment, and accident management; and advanced mobility solutions such as car sharing and mobile apps.
A BMW spokeswoman told the Times the company is "not planning to sell the domain."
The BMW Group established Alphabet International in 1997 in the United Kingdom as a fleet management subsidiary. In 2013, the company reached 500,000 vehicles under its management.
On Monday, Google reorganized under Alphabet, Inc., a holding company for Google's search business, Next, Calico, and other companies. The company used the Web address abc.xyz.
