The Australian government has committed $11.7 billion for major road projects, upgrades and maintenance throughout Western Australia over the next four years.

The government’s 2021-2022 budget contains funding for bridges, highways, road interchanges, cyclist and pedestrian infrastructure, and road safety, including the Safer Roads and Bridges Program in Perth and Peel.

"We have a number of major projects under construction, including the Mitchell Freeway Extension and widening, as well as a number of projects in planning, creating a pipeline of work for industry over the next four years,” said Australian Premier Mark McGowan. "Planning work is well underway on the new Causeway Pedestrian Bridge, which will transform connections to the Perth CBD and is a key part of the Perth City Deal.”

According to Transportation Minister Rita Saffioti, "Work is already underway on the Mitchell Freeway Extension to Alkimos, which will provide a new transport option for northern suburbs residents, while planning work is commencing on the Mandurah Estuary Bridge.”
