Average Retail Gasoline Price Falls 3.8 Cents
WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline fell 3.8 cents last week to reach $3.00 per gallon as of Aug. 14.
WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline fell 3.8 cents last week to reach $3.00 per gallon as of Aug. 14. That's 45.0 cents higher than last year, according to the Energy Department's Energy Information Administration (EIA). Prices fell for the first time in seven weeks, staying at or above the $3 mark for the fourth week in a row. East Coast prices softened 2.5 cents to $3.008 per gallon. The Midwest saw the largest regional price decrease of 8.2 cents to $2.972 per gallon, the EIA reported. West Coast prices remained the highest in the nation, rising 1.9 cents to reach $3.137 per gallon. California prices climbed 1.9 cents to $3.211 per gallon. Retail diesel fuel prices gained 1.0 cent to reach $3.065 per gallon as of Aug. 14, 49.8 cents higher than last year and the highest price since Oct. 24. Diesel prices varied throughout the country, with the Rocky Mountains and West Coast both seeing increases over 10 cents to $3.311 per gallon and $3.218 per gallon, respectively. California prices were up 9.0 cents to $3.220 per gallon, the EIA reported.
