MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- Alabama's latest draft of its transportation plan for 2008-12 includes the purchase of de-icing and weather-monitoring equipment to make the Interstate 65 bridges over the Tennessee River in Decatur safer. The latest draft of the transportation plan also includes a warning system with caution lights to alert drivers of possible icy conditions, reported the Decatur Daily News. Current plans call for the $2.5 million de-icing system to be installed beginning in September 2009. Work on the $2.6 million weather-monitoring and warning system is set to start in November 2009.
