Welcome to the latest installment of Fleet Data Depot, which provides snapshots of information, trends, and analysis relevant to the fleet market.

Fleetio, a fleet maintenance management software provider, has tabulated for Automotive Fleet theaverage services and parts costs for light- and medium-duty vehicles in its system. Fleetio users uploaded this information via line items within work and repair orders.

Fleetio’s Q1 2025 report shows that fleet maintenance costs continued their upward trend in Q1 2025, with the average service cost rising to $105.87, a 2.6% increase over the CY 2024 average of $103.24, according to aggregated fleet data from Fleetio.

While many core maintenance categories saw moderate price inflation, some routine services posted sharp cost increases. At the same time, several high-frequency tasks saw price relief.

Meanwhile, Median Time to Resolve Issue in days has dropped an eye-opening 20.1%, from 3.13 to 2.5 days, continuing an improvement seen in other quarters coming out of the post-pandemic supply chain issues.

Notable Service Task Price Hikes

Notable price spikes include diesel oil changes using conventional oil, which jumped 23.7% to $96.10. This spike likely reflects inflation in labor costs and parts, combined with strong diesel vehicle utilization.

Tire replacement also saw a rise of 2.98%, reaching $543.25 per service, likely due to increased demand, higher material costs (rubber and steel), and bundled labor charges.

Additional common services with notable price hikes include:

  • Tire alignment: Up 12.4% to $130.46

  • Air conditioning service: Up 7.0% to $165.04

  • Transmission flushes: Up 5.1% to $189.74

These increases reflect a mix of labor shortages, inflation in refrigerants and fluids, and newer vehicle systems requiring more complex servicing.

Which Service Tasks Decreased?

Interestingly, some services posted substantial price decreases:

  • Flat repairs dropped 11.7% to $22.81, possibly from improved tire quality or less reliance on outsourced roadside vendors.

  • Miscellaneous repairs fell 10.1% to $259.22

  • Diesel semi-synthetic oil changes fell 8.9% to $104.41

Brake rotors/discs — a common wear item — saw a slight cost reduction of 2.5%, while spark plug replacements dipped 1.2%.

Are You Tracking Your Fleet's True Total Cost of Ownership?

Bobit Business Media surveyed 190 fleet professionals and found that while most fleets are tracking costs, fragmented systems and data gaps are keeping true TCO visibility out of reach. With rising pressure to control spend in an increasingly volatile environment, the gap between what fleets think they know and what the data actually shows is wider than you might expect. See how your peers are managing costs today and where the industry still has room to improve.
