Hino Brings Class 4 Cabover to Fleets

Introduced earlier in 2015, the 155 model Class 4 truck is a perfect fit for light delivery, as well as such vocational segments as landscaping fleets.

Earlier in 2015, during the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Hino Trucks added the 155 model cab-over engine (COE) truck to its product lineup.

The Class 4 truck features a GVWR of 14,500 pounds and is powered by Hino’s J05E-TP engine rated at 210 hp. Hino will also offer a double cab version of the Class 4, the 155-DC model, which seats up to seven when a larger crew is needed.

“We are very excited about the addition of the 155 and 155-DC to our model lineup. We will now be able to better serve the needs of our customers with a wider range of product offerings,” said Glenn Ellis, VP marketing, dealer operations and product planning for Hino Trucks.

Delivering Vocational Abilities

Since its launch, the 155 has excelled in the light delivery segment, both in refrigerated and dry van applications.

“It is also an ideal application fit in the landscaping industry. From a stake-body application for delivering trees to a jobsite to a spray rig application for lawn fertilization, the maneuverability of the 155 makes it a great fit in this industry where the ability to move in and out of tight spaces is essential,” Ellis said.

The all-new Hino Class 4 COE model 155 was designed specifically for the North American market, and is available now.

“We are now delivering. We are very encouraged about the potential of the 155 in the U.S. market as it has exceeded sales expectations thus far,” Ellis said.

Hino entered the U.S. market in 1984 and the Class 4 cab-over engine offering was a major part of the company’s foundation.

“When we re-entered the Class 4 market at the beginning of this year, our customer base didn’t forget about the tradition of high quality, durability, and reliability Hino Trucks is known for, and this loyalty has helped us get off to a great start,” Ellis said. “Our dealer network is fully trained on the product and excited to support and promote the 155, so we are confident we are positioned well for success in the growing Class 4 market.”

Additionally, a fleet with happier operators will experience higher productivity and a higher driver retention rate. For driver comfort, the truck’s interior is ergonomically designed with a mobile workspace. Two large overhead storage compartments are also available in the cab, along with an additional storage compartment in front of the passenger side seat.

“The 155 is a fantastic truck to drive with its outstanding ergonomics, visibility, and tight turning radius. The 155 will do its part to create a stress-free work environment for any driver,” Ellis said. “Fleets understand the total cost of ownership model, so they will see very quickly how the 155 brings value to their operations.”

Finally, the Hino’s advanced Driver Information Display shows instant trip fuel consumption, DPR, operation time, percent/current acceleration, and vehicle diagnostic information, enhancing the ease of vehicle operation.

Measuring the Specs

The 14,500-pound GVW Class 4 model features 210 hp and 440 lb.-ft. of torque from Hino’s 5.0L J05E Series engine, utilizing Aisin’s A465, 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Hino 155 also features a 33-inch wide, 56,900 psi frame with a center mounted rear fuel tank.

Additionally, the 155 is set up for a variety of upfit applications, featuring three different wheelbase lengths and multiple fuel tank locations to allow a body company to customize to a fleet’s needs.

“We recently announced expansion of our warranty coverage, and our 155 model is now backed by an industry-leading five-year/200,000-mile extended engine warranty, while an optional seven-year/150,000-mile extended engine warranty is available along with extended aftertreatment warranty plans as well,” Ellis said.

Additionally, The 155 is also eligible for HinoCare benefits, which is the truckmaker’s two-year/60,000-mile preventive care services program offered to Hino customers free of charge.

The 155 model cabover also comes standard with a five-year, 200,000-mile powertrain warranty for the 2016 model-year, and Hino’s 24-hour, seven-days-a-week roadside assistance program, HinoWatch.

Also available on the 155 is INSIGHT 2.0 Powered by Telogis, which is Hino’s comprehensive telematics solution.

Hino is sure the 155 model will be the perfect addition to many vocational fleet operations.
